I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of

Your Excellency's Note No.9 of the 19th ultimo on the

aubject of the refusal of the Imperial Patent Office to

grant registration of the trade marks of the British

Cigarette Company for which they applied.

In reply I have the honour to inform Your Excell-

ency that I at once referred the matter to the competent

Department and that they have now forwarded to me the

enclosed statements of reasons for decisions refusing

registration with the explanation that although it is

impossible to be certain what cases are meant in the

absence of any specific indication of them in Your Ex-

cellency's above-mentioned communication, the cases

noted in the enclosure are the most recent ones in which

decisions were given refusing applications from the

Company named. I accordingly have the honour to trans-

mit these statements with the request that Your Excell-

ency will be so good as to refer to them for details.
